  • Prayer of Dedication for the Installation of Dr. Robert Cochran

Prayer of Dedication for the Installation of Dr. Robert Cochran
as the Executive Director/Minister of the D.C. Baptist Convention
    May 3, 2015
Montgomery Hills Baptist Church, Silver Spring, Maryland

Almighty God, who calls and equips, who guides and inspires, we ask your blessing on Dr. Robert Cochran as we set him apart to lead and serve the churches and missions of the D.C. Baptist Convention as our Executive Director/ Minister. May our presence here for this service of Installation be an encouragement as Robert takes on this new role and may our prayers be of support during his length of service.

We give you thanks, O Lord, for the years of service Robert has already given, for the love he has already demonstrated among us. In this new chapter we ask that you help us to build on what is, to accomplish your will for what is yet to be. We ask that you guide Robert in these new duties, to think in new ways to guide our Convention in right paths according to your purpose. Give Robert discernment to choose what is best and not merely that which is good. Even as we dedicate Dr. Cochran to this service, Lord, help us to dedicate ourselves as clergy and laity, as the gathered church, to express our witness of faith as the D.C. Baptist Convention as we engage our communities with your love and grace and the Good News of Jesus Christ. Strengthen our relationships as brothers and sisters in Christ that the world may know we are Christians by our love.

We entrust Robert Cochran, Executive Director/Minister to your care and guidance. This is a day that you have made, O Lord, and we will rejoice and be glad. We make our prayer in the name of Jesus our Lord.

~Prayer of Dedication for Dr. Cochran

  • 2015 Convoy of Hope

2015 Convoy of Hope/Washington DC event to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015! We believe that this event "is not just a moment but a movement", and will bring hope, encouragement and transformation to the Maryland, D.C. and Virginia community.

Many of you shared your enthusiasm with the vision by signing up to contribute volunteers, prayer, financial support, and other resources for the outreach. Our leadership team is excited to be partnering with so many who have the desire to touch Gods' heart by touching Gods' people.

Periodically, we will be communicating important specifics and information regarding your involvement in the event, as well as upcoming training sessions and meetings that you may attend. You can obtain helpful information regarding the event and volunteer service areas at www.convoyofhope.org/washingtondc .

    How Can I Help?

Now that you have committed as a church to be involved in the outreach, you and your congregation members may have asked how can I help? Here are some things that you may consider:

    · Communicate vision to leaders and congregation (please note that arrangements can be made if you would like someone to come and present information to your leaders and/or congregation by contacting Rev. Diana McConaty , Convoy of Hope Coordinator, at 301.899.5940 or via email at coh@eagcs.org <mailto:coh@eagcs.org> .)

    · Obtain commitment for volunteers - Once you have volunteers, you may send a list of names, email addresses and cell phone numbers via email to coh@eagcs.org <mailto:coh@eagcs.org> . This will register them as a volunteer and they will begin to receive update information.

    · Participate in Convoy of Hope Sunday - Sunday, August 2, 2015 - We are asking that each of our more than 50+ churches that are partnering with the Convoy of Hope to sign up volunteers and receive a special offering from their congregations that will be specifically for the Convoy of Hope. All monies received that day will go toward the many expenses that have been and will be incurred for the event. Although the Convoy of Hope will be bringing more than $1 million in food, services and goods to the event, there are many expenses that will need to be covered. It is anticipated that at least $100,000 in goods and services will be needed.

The following are suggested tools that can be used to facilitate this offering. (These tools can be accessed through our event website at www.convoyofhope.org/washingtondc )

o Volunteer video of the areas that one can volunteer for
    · Flyer Distribution - We need your help! In anticipation of 8,000 - 10,000 guests attending the event, one of the best proven methods of invitation is flyer distribution. According to the Convoy of Hope statistically 10% of the flyers distributed determine how many guests of honor will attend. Therefore, since our goal is to have 10,000 guests we will need to distribute 100,000 flyers! This will be done in three waves of approximately 33,000 flyers as follows:

o August 1 - 8, 2015 (6 weeks before event) each church will identify areas for door to door flyer distribution, shopping centers, highly populated areas. Please keep in mind that our target is to reach those who have the most need so you will want to place high priority on those areas.

o August 15 - 29, 2015 (2-4 weeks before event) Second wave of 33,000 flyers distributed to THE SAME areas as distributed the first wave.

o September 5 - 12, 2015 (The week of event) Third wave of 33,000 flyers distributed to THE SAME areas as distributed to wave one and two.

Please let us know how many flyers your congregation will distribute and we will make the necessary arrangements for you to receive them. We believe this is a very achievable goal if each church reaches their areas of influence.

Attend a Meeting - We will hold several key meetings that we will present the information to pastors, church leaders and volunteers at Evangel Assembly located at 5900 Old Branch Avenue, Temple Hills, Maryland 20748. Media packs and flyers for distribution will be distributed at these meetings. Please choose one of the dates that you and your church leaders/volunteers would like to attend and rsvp via email to coh@eagcs.org <mailto:coh@eagcs.org> or by phone to 301.899.5940 .

The two scheduled meetings to choose from are:

    1. Saturday, July 18, 2015 - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

    2. Saturday, July 25, 2015 - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

Special Training for Connections and Prayer - Special training for anyone interested in serving in this area will be held on the two Saturday dates above. At these key meetings, we will explore strategies for our volunteers to pray with and connect with guests on the event day and in the weeks following.
